Diving into a Bizarre Steam Game Trial: Controlling a Poop in a Mission to Find the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and enthusiasts have encountered plenty of entertaining independent titles. But, one is particularly notable for its quirky concept. Named Unko Technica, this classic-feel side-scrolling game lets you play a hero that is actually a piece of poop attempting to travel to a toilet. For those curious, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."
The gameplay is easy to grasp: press a jump control. In 150 levels, you'll face mini-bosses and unlock a store to buy customizations for your poop character.
Plan your movements with caution, since one mistake forces starting over. Bounce off floating orbs to propel yourself to new heights, traverse crumbling ledges, and touch triggers to reveal hidden paths. Collect UN-KOINS for buying challenging stages where gameplay intensifies.
In terms of design, the game features eye-catching environments and an amazing soundtrack. The retro visual style featuring morphing basic polygons evokes memories of players of classic titles like Earthbound.
Even though tough to think of other games where you are a dung character, interactive entertainment have long featured toilet humor. For instance, in Death Stranding, you can create explosives from character droppings. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize dung as plant food. Unsurprisingly, this theme is present extensively in the South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.
Regardless of its goofy concept, Unko Technica has already earned impressive accolades, including being named best at Bandai Namco's indie contest in 2023. The demo is available now on Steam, with the final release scheduled to launch on PC this November.
