Hodgkinson achieved her fastest time of 1:54.61 the previous season in the British capital.

Keely Hodgkinson finished her two-lap season with a win at the all-female Athlos meet in New York on Friday evening.

{The reigning Olympic gold medallist, who secured third place at the World Championships last month, excelled in an impressive victory in one minute 56.53 seconds in what was just her sixth appearance in a year impacted by a muscle issue.

Fellow Briton and world silver medallist Georgia Hunter Bell finished second again in 1:58.33, while St Vincent's Shafiqua Maloney (one minute 58.57) secured third place.

"I haven't competed much this season so it was probably easier for me to compete and want to give it something," said the 23-year-old.

"The environment out there is crazy so it was really, really fun."

The female-exclusive meet filled Icahn Stadium in its second edition, bringing a party atmosphere to conventional athletics, with musical performances and special crowns replacing traditional winners' medals.

The tennis legend with 23 major titles Serena Williams, who is wed to the founder of Athlos Alexis Ohanian, was on hand to present the victors with their tiaras.

Previous champions took home $60,000 (£44,603) - among the biggest cash prizes in track and field.

The competition also drew several top athletes, as the Kenyan triple Olympic champion and global record breaker Faith Kipyegon won the mile, finishing in four hours 17.78 minutes.

American Brittany Brown, the 200m bronze medallist from the recent Paris Games, won the sprint double.
