Watkins Maintains the Edge - However Calvert-Lewin Could Still Make the World Cup

Just one goal in his initial ten English top division outings this campaign had many doubting if Dominic Calvert-Lewin's best days were behind him.

But, a only four weeks later, he stands as the most talked-about attacker in England after bagging 7 goals in 6 straight games.

His most recent goal, in a tie versus Sunderland, brought his season's haul to eight, seeing him become the leading English scorer in the Premier League this term.

A Stunning Revival

The 28-year-old joined Leeds United on a free transfer in the summer, following a nine-year period with Everton that was marred by fitness issues in its closing stages.

But, the statistics supporting his comeback in Daniel Farke's new fast-breaking 3-5-2 setup are truly impressive.

His six-game scoring streak puts him in elite company as only the 11th English player to score in six or more successive Premier League outings.

To put that into perspective, even England captain Harry Kane never managed a run this long - his top is two separate five-match runs.

And the only English striker to better Calvert-Lewin in recent memory is Jamie Vardy, who went on an eight-game scoring spree for Leicester City in 2019.

What's Behind the Hot Streak?

What is behind Calvert-Lewin so hard to stop in the past month? A previous opponent's manager described it aptly.
